We have 4 three to four month old kittens. Do we use flea collars or sprays? Or a combination of both?

Flea collars do NOT work. They only "treat" the area that they touch……what about the rest of the body???
It’s always better to get the proper flea treatment from a VET, especially for kittens. You can get each kitten a dose of Capstar ( which will kill the existing fleas within an hour or so ), and some topical flea treatment to put on them at the same time. I like the "new" flea product, called ProMeris. It has worked great for me, for the past 2 years…..
OTC flea products are sometimes lethal to kittens, so getting your meds from a vet is the SAFEST way to go.
Also, if you have fleas on your kittens, you have fleas!!!!!!! If your kittens are inside only, then you need to treat the whole house for fleas. The fleas you SEE today, were EGGS ..3 .. weeks ago. If your kittens are outside, you need to treat your yard!
Go to the store and get some 20 Mule Team Borax powder and brush it thoroughly down INTO the nap of your rugs/carpeting. Also, be sure to get it under sofas, chairs, beds, into cracks, etc. Make it "disappear". Wait for a couple of days for the borax to dry up the fleas. Then, vacuum everything thoroughly and throw away the v.c. bag OUTSIDE in the garbage. We don’t want any flea eggs to hatch out and re-infest your house. Wait another day or two and RETREAT the house again……start to finish…..since the eggs hatch out in cycles, and you may not have gotten every egg with the first treatment.
This does work, but it takes time and commitment. Depending on the extent of your flea problem, you may have to do it a FEW times.
Hope this helps you….It worked for me…..Good luck.
can i have one? i love kittens
on the kittens you can use the collar.. but i dont think you should use the spray.. the older one i would use the spray
I would highly recommend against ANYTHING you purchase anywhere other than your vet. Flea collars are pretty ineffective at best, and if your cat chews on it, it can be toxic. Same with the sprays, there have been many cases of toxic reactions to flea products that are bought OTC.
I would recommend you talk to your vet and purchase flea medications you put directly on the cat for maximum benefit and long lasting results
It is best to ask your local vet you don’t want to give them something that could be harmful to there health. If they don’t have fleas than there should be no hurry about it. But if there are fleas on them than you need to ask the vet so you can get them taken care of.
I’m pretty sure the kittens are too young for anything chemical that kills fleas. try combing them often and getting the fleas in water to drown them. maybe the vet or a pet store can recommend something. I don’t know about the older cat.
flea collars are a waste of money get frontline it also kills other parasites like ear mites
Flea collars don’t work, sprays only kill the fleas and not the eggs. Cats over 8 weeks old can use Advantage from a vet. Just walk into a vets office and buy the number of tubes you need. Tell them the age of the kittens . Actually 2 tubes would work for the 4 cats, if you apply it carefully to the back of the head near the neck. Don’t use over the counter flea meds as they have caused fatal reactions. The older cat should do fine with one tube of Advantage. The tubes are for cats under 9 pounds and for over.
I MYSELF AM NOT EVEN SURE ABOUT THIS ONE BUT I DO KNOW I WOULD NOT USE A SPRAY ON A KITTEN OR AN OLDER CAT..GOOGLE THE QUESTION YOU WILL GET AN ANSWER..
GOO LUCK
Collars very are dangerous for kittens! The meds in the collars are way too strong for kittens. Many kittens have died due to flea collars!
Sprays are not that great either. Try Frontline Plus for kittens. You can get it a very reasonable cost at this website: http://www.joespet.com and a really quick delivery too. Good luck with the "Babies"!
as for flee collars and sprays its time to move on. you should use flee cream that goes on the back of the neck. you can get these from your vet or an online pet med source. I recommend 1800petmeds.com or simply call them. You use this method once monthly, it is highly effective!
NO DONT USE EITHER
the kittens need to be given a flea bath instead, collars and sprays are too strong for them, you can read the box
give them a bath in mild dish detergent, its really gentle, and kills fleas
also, wash the bedding to kill fleas around there
I strongly advise against the spray. My cat had a horrible reaction to it, it really is just spraying poison on them. I would 100% recommend using a topical from the vet like Advantage or Frontline. They are far far more effective (collars hardly work at all, the poison is so concentrated to the one area) and last a month for each dose. They really do work amazingly well!
